The first year of the program develops an awareness of basic design principles and processed required for practicing graphic design. By emphasizing traditional design fundamentals, the student gains an understanding of many formative terms and concepts. Courses attempt to combine theory with practical skills allowing the student to progress to a more advanced level of work. In other words, the individual is able to start at square one learning the basics before dealing with more complex design problems later on.
The curriculum includes an introduction to graphic design and problem-solving, graphic techniques, basic typography, colour theory, drawing, photography, digital imaging, computer labs, illustration as well as art and design history. |
